The information processing model is an analogy used in cognitive psychology for the way an individual records, synthesizes, and retrieves information. It models the human brain to a computer that processes external information and produces a reaction.

Information processing (IP) models of human behavior assume mental operations analogous to those of computers, for example, storing, maintaining, comparing, and retrieving information.
